Dr. Hardy Clinic

An established specialty oral surgery clinic had outgrown its rental space and impending addition of another practitioner presented an opportunity for a new facility.

Wyoming Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (WYOMS) is nestled into the foothills of Casper Mountain along a major loop highway that encircles the southern edge of the City at the base of Casper Mountain. The site affords high visibility and ease of access for patients. The constrained rectangular plot forced a one-way vehicular traffic loop for much of the site. The floor plan is arranged for efficient circular flow of patients through the clinic around a core of administrative functions, anchored by a large light-filled entrance and waiting area. A lab functions to sterilize surgical instruments and allows dental implants to be created in-house that otherwise would be outsource to an out-of-state specialty company. Exam and consultation rooms face the foothills of the nearby mountain for pleasant patient views.

The structure harmonizes with the site by borrowing forms and materials from the adjacent residential neighborhoods, but employed in a modern craftsman style with timber accents that lend both a regional western feel and a soothing aesthetic to defray patient anxiety. Clearstory dormers and oversize prairie style windows allow light penetration deep within the building volume while adding to the residential appearance and offer sweeping views of the adjacent Dinosaur Hill, foothills and Casper Mountain.
